What is Spiritual Parenting?
Really, this is a question each parent needs to ask of themselves. But let me offer you my perspective to consider as a starting point. If I had to reduce “spiritual parenting” to it’s essential elements, they would be –
- an intention to nurture our children’s spirits, as well as their bodies and minds.
- a commitment to the real purpose of parenting – to empower our children to be themselves (rather than shaping them into who we think they should be).
- an understanding that we are equals with our children and that this requires us to show them deep respect. It also means we can learn from them as much as they can learn from us.
Being a “spiritual parent” does not require us to follow any particular spiritual tradition. Personally, I am a student of them all, looking for what resonates for me and my family. Whatever your particular beliefs and practices are, they can become part of your spiritual parenting style.
To find out more about what spiritual parenting is and and how to practically go about it, I invite you to make use of this website. My blog post What is Spiritual Parenting? is a great place to start and you can sign up to my weekly newsletter to get on-going email support. If you’re in Wellington, keep a look-out for my workshops coming up later in the year also.
and much love to you and your little souls,
